Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) Ltd on Tuesday (September 9) launched the new Honda Civic. Here is an overview of what is new in the Civic and what has been taken off the old car.
WHATS NEW
- New Head light design
- New Tail light Design
- New Fog light design (available only in the 'V' variant)
- USB port for the stereo
- New alloy wheel design
- Cruise control (available only on the 'V' variant)
- A fuel consumption indicator (Similar to what is offered in the Jazz & City)
WHATS BEEN REMOVED FROM THE OLD MODEL
- Although Honda has given an option of a USB player in the new Civic, however,
they have replaced the in dash 6 CD changer with a single cd player. So the Civic now has a 1 MP3/ audio CD slot.
WHATS STILL MISSING
- Honda has still not provided steering mounted audio controls on the Civic which is surprising, given the fact that the Jazz and the City come with the same steering design, coupled with steering mounted audio controls. Prospective buyers are definitely going to notice this blatantly missing feature.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

OVERVIEW
Apart from the other changes the Civic is now available in a new shade 'Polished Metal' which is currently available on the Honda City. Honda has also reintroduced the S variant of the Civic with this launch. The stripped down 'E' variant has been discontinued. Civic buyers will now have an option to choose from the moderately loaded 'S' variant or go for the fully loaded 'V' variant. A comparison of the 2 can be found here.
COST
The civic now starts at an ex-showroom price of 1,180,000 (ex showroom Delhi) for the 'S' variant. Honda has also launched optional accessory packages for the CIvic called 'Elegance' and 'Inspire.' Details of pricing in your city can be found here.
VERDICT
Although the new Civic with its cosmetic changes looks better, but it faces stiff competition from the Corolla Altis which is better loaded and a more value for money package. However, it bring back some zing in the legendary 'Corolla' - 'Civic' battle.
